With my oldest daughter all packed up, we made a detour to West Virginia before she headed off to college in Boston for a side trip to West Virginia. It was a good send off, and also my last chance to cash in on my Fathers Day gift!
On Sunday, we harnessed up and went to Circleville to climb the Via Ferrata (Italian for ‘the Iron Way’) with NRocks Outdoor Adventures. We climbed nearly 1,100 ft vertically using a series of embedded metal rungs, natural rock ledges, and sometimes just a rough edge that barely gave a toehold. It was challenging with spectacular views of the ‘fins’ we were climbing that only seemed to be a few feet wide.
Part the way up, we transversed from one ‘fin’ to another using a 200’ swinging bridge with sparsely laid 2” x 4”s with a 150’ drop below us! The bridge swung and swayed a little, but it only added to the atmosphere.
The entire day was fun, exhilarating, and challenging. It was a perfect day on the mountain, and no one fell! It was a good send off to Harvard!
