In November, my wife and I ventured out about 5 miles from home to the Michie House in Louisa, Virginia, for a “High on the Hog Feast” Open Hearth Cooking Class sponsored by the Louisa County Parks and Recreation. What’s for dinner you may ask; I will gladly tell! Roasted stuffed pork loin skewered on a spit, Cheshire pork pie baked in a Dutch oven, braised pork ribs in a vegetable stew, mashed potatoes with gravy from the drippings of the pork, carrots all cut and dressed, apples all sauced , biscuits all baked, and gingerbread all nice and sweet! All from scratch and cooked over a fire with plenty of coals! Yum, yum! It was a fun day with a good group of former strangers in which to cook and share a meal together! We were thankful for the birthday gift given to us by our youngest daughter.
