It is amazing how fast a week and 1,950 miles can go by when on vacation! My wife and I vacationed in Massachusetts in September, splitting the week between the Berkshire Mountains in the west and Cape Cod in the east.
The Berkshire’s leaves were just beginning to change with a hint of color while we were visiting. We explored many small New England towns while driving, hiking, and walking many roads and trails. I even spotted an owl on one of my hikes! We learned a lot about the history of the Shakers at a Shaker village. Everyone was nice and friendly and we had good food.
While transitioning between locations, we took a detour to Boston where we had lunch with our oldest daughter in between her classes at Harvard University. We then drove and spent the remainder of the week headquartered out of Yarmouth on Cape Cod, where our daughter joined us Friday night.
Quality time was spent time at several beaches along the National Seashore walking, collecting shells, and watching the seals swim close to shore. Our drive took us as far as we could go on the cape as we visited several quaint fishing villages where we watched the boats come in to unload the bounty they harvested from the sea at the end of the day; the seals were also interested in partaking in the catch of the day!
We ate some awesome seafood everyday we were there. We even learned some American history we didn’t know before, such as the Pilgrims actually landed at Provincetown on the tip of the cape several weeks before they landed at Plymouth! It was a fun and interesting vacation!
My goal is to add additional posts of this trip with daily details. Only time will tell if meet this goal.
